SHALU MISSION STATEMENT

The monastery’s prime mission is to revive, restore, preserve and protect the Bhulug Lineage tradition; to teach and disseminate the teachings of Buddha, and to perform  principal service obligations to the Tibetan and other Buddhist communities, serving all aspiring devotees and communities alike. This notable mission has been the foundation and strength of the monastery since it was originally established in Tibet. This has brought about significant member strength, with pupils from all the regions of Tibet, the Himalayan regions of India, and South East Asia.

Since Shalu’s inception here in India, it has advanced the Monastery’s traditional culture and academic curriculum. Also, it has actively been involved in many other spheres of service to Institutions, Organizations, Communities and Individuals alike, doing whatever is possible in its capacity as a Monastery. Recounting the years since its re-establishment at Poanta Sahib, there has been notable and phenomenal progress in its service field, in addition to the growth of the Monastery itself.

The establishment of the Monastery has also given the Tibetan refugee settlers of Poanta Sahib a fresh return to their traditional Dharma practice, and brought their culture back into their spiritual lives.  This has been accomplished despite the traumatic experience from loss of their homeland, and as they attempt to survive and thrive in a totally different region and climate.
